I've been keeping tabs on your latest work. I will always think of you as a brilliant painter because of the day we walked into the studio at ju and saw a huge amazing painting you were working on. Dave Lauderdale and anna and I were in awe. Then the next day..it was gone. you had overworked it, gone too far. but that painting is still there. In my memory. Hope you are doing well. I joined this group when I saw your name on the list or participants. looking forward to a group show/happening. I'm ready to go.SharlaTVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16854800588556191357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-52386415817458842412007-07-19T14:54:00.000-05:002007-07-19T14:54:00.000-05:00Sharla, I saw this on Salon today and thought of y...Sharla, I saw this on Salon today and thought of your comment. Apparently your eyes are quite sharp:

[NYC's] rapidly decaying infrastructure has been ignored during the conservative era in favor of free-market religion and the wonder-working powers of tax cuts.

Wednesday, in New York, a pipe installed in 1924 finally gave way and ended up killing someone. Imagine that. They built things to last in those days, but it is doubtful that anyone ever dreamed that those pipes would have to last for nearly a century.madeleinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06266536823444637061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-37953473703642018292007-07-19T12:32:00.000-05:002007-07-19T12:32:00.000-05:00Hey Sharla! I lived there five years and it changed my life.

I look at things like a New Yorker does now. Or at least I think so.

It is the center of the world not just the art world if you ask me.

Regardless of if you like the art work coming out of there or not.

Of course how could anyone say for certain.

I feel any artist should live there for a bit.

Just my take on things.

Glad you got to Chelsea. It hasn't impressed me lately. I go each year for a visit up there to see family.

cheers.Byronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15927666976994826064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-87676619121117599802007-07-18T11:57:00.000-05:002007-07-18T11:57:00.000-05:00thanks madeleine... I too have an appreciation for Jacksonville and feel newly inspired.SharlaTVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16854800588556191357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-31129607306949773192007-07-18T09:34:00.000-05:002007-07-18T09:34:00.000-05:00I actually stayed in the lower east end off riving...I actually stayed in the lower east end off rivington and went through chelsea, soho etc... I looked for and didn't find the new contemporary art museum because its new location was under construction. 4 days is definately not enough time to see even an onion slice of whats happening but I go to ny every two years.SharlaTVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16854800588556191357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-46948681443223847572007-07-18T08:16:00.000-05:002007-07-18T08:16:00.000-05:00Sharla,I must agree with you. For the longest time...Sharla,

I must agree with you. For the longest time I felt like NYC was where I would want to be...if I could hack it. Now when I visit, it is with the ability to go and see and enjoy all the things that are great about it, but with a wider awareness of what is happening around me. And unless I was to magically become (because that's the only way it could happen) one of the elite few who could afford a weekend rental in the Hamptons (then again I hate the Hamptons), NYC isn't looking as golden as it once did, while converesely I am able to accept what Jacksonville has to offer more graciously.

As to the movement away from the art center of the world...that's a tough one to call, especially in the summer when the city smells like a stew of pee, armpits, and cumin...I might pose the arguement that the sheer volume of museums there will keep it in the top ten, say, of art cities in the world. But yes, lately when I've been there I do sense a feeling of malaise.

And as a side note, if you like antiquities, check out the Egyptian collection at the Brooklyn musuem, which is one of my favs.madeleinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06266536823444637061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-41345649986717908802007-07-18T07:40:00.000-05:002007-07-18T07:40:00.000-05:00does sound like a great trip though.thanks so much...does sound like a great trip though.

thanks so much for the scoop.Byronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15927666976994826064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7620650603999720282.post-66966789332252887072007-07-18T07:39:00.000-05:002007-07-18T07:39:00.000-05:00Did you make it to Chelsea? http://chelseaartgalle...Did you make it to Chelsea?
http://chelseaartgalleries.com/ That's where all the new art is.

Williamsburg, brooklyn even.
http://www.williamsburggalleryassociation.com/

Check out www.ps1.org.

Definitely wouldn't say anything like that about New York art until checking out those spots.

Just my take on it.

The MET is amazing though that's for sure.

I personally like what's coming out of San Fran more myself.Byronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15927666976994826064noreply@blogger.com
