Rick Rubin

There's a great article in the Times about Rick Rubin: is he a man doing a mysterious bearded shaman shtick, or the real thing? It's a pretty long article, might merit printing out and reading over tea or coffee.

That picture doesn't go with the article, but I think it more perfectly captures the Rick Rubin of legend...good stuff.

I havent finished the article but i really like this guy. I mean he got Johnny Cash to make those killer last few albums! I could kiss the man! And the fact that he works with Niel Diamond and the Gossip (which are really wonderful). Obviously he and i have similar music tastes.
But he is a good model for how quality art gets made and distributed, not by some corporate board meeting, but from some really smart individual focused on the art itself (not the image) and knowing what is good and convincing others. He is really inspiring.

That is actually the crux of the article for me...his personal trappings are less interesting to me than the surety and seeming integrity with which he acts...except for that whole "word of mouth" campaign...I mean infiltrating casual conversations...but as an experiment, its interesting.
