Concepting Anyone?

Lately I've been thinking more and more about using the space of the Artwalk as an art project. Would any of you be interested in collaborating on a concept for a piece that takes the entire Artwalk space or a block of it, and turns it into an art piece? Maybe it's performance, installation, or something site specific?

If we really wanted to make drastic change here in Jax I feel we should try and use what space we already have and what audience we already have to try and define contemporary art to the masses who have no appreciation for it. It'd be great if we could all pool our resources and minds and come up with something that folks would never forget.

Anyone game? I'm down with meeting Friday at the Riverside Starbucks. Maybe we could start on a concept at this meeting?

I've been thinking of maybe turning the entire downtown into a war memorial for the artwalk.

Maybe we could all do a small memorial tribute type thing that we could leave at different points throughout the artwalk.

Like those little memorials people do for friends and such who've died that they leave where their vehicles go off the road.

If we had a team of people to make site specific memorial pieces that were left along the artwalk, we could turn the whole artwalk into a walking memorial for the war.

I definitely think it would be an interesting piece.

Mine would have flowers, and flags, and little mementos for the trophy soldiers. Each one could be totally different. Something like this could be simple enough to work and yet have a very powerful impact and essentially turn the artwalk into another animal.

If we came up with projects like this as a team, we wouldn't need a gallery to make powerful work. The public space is our gallery

I think that is a very good idea, and I'd be down to participate. Perhaps it could even be something done "under the radar" so to speak, so that when artwalkers arrive, there's this additional component to something they've come to view as a more social event...pieces could be large or small, overt or tucked away.

It too, would be interesting to document the works before they go out, then see waht happens to them...

shazam! i'm glad you like it. it's just one idea of something we could do together. maybe at the meeting we could agree on a group concept.

maybe each member would be able to curate a project that involves the group?
